One of the highlights of SEMA 2016, from our perspective, was the reveal of Dodge’s Shakedown Challenger concept car. This vehicle’s design centers around blending a vintage Dodge Challenger body with a modern engine, suspension and exterior and interior design queues. Very similar to Gas Monkey Garage’s ’71 Scat Pack Challenger we built on Fast N’ Loud Season 6 episodes 1 and 2.
The obvious similarities between the GMG Challenger and the new Shakedown Challenger are that they are both 1971 Challengers with 392 6.4 liter Hemi V8 engines. Gas Monkey’s engine came out of a 2015 Scat Pack Challenger R/T prototype and the Shakedown’s is a crate engine from Mopar Performance.
Some of the highlights of the Shakedown Challenger are front and rear signature lighting systems, Viper seats & steering wheel, Slingshot Hell Cat wheels and of course the historic Shaker Hood Scoop. The Shaker Hood Scoop was something Richard really wanted on the Gas Monkey Scat Pack Challenger, but based on certain issues with the build, Aaron and the Monkeys regrettably couldn’t make it happen.
It’s likely that the 2016 SEMA Shakedown Challenger will end up in a museum or Mopar exhibit and hopefully it will inspire many more private builds like it. We were proud that the Gas Monkey ’71 Scat Pack Challenger went to one of our fans via Havoline’s Bad to the Chrome II sweepstakes.
