Gas Monkey Energy’s Alex Laughlin took home the top prize and The Wally trophy this past weekend at NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals. Racing in just his third Pro Stock event this year Alex was able to best Tanner Gray in E3, who Alex was 0-1 against this season, setting up a final with points leader Bo Butner.
Alex’s win was just the second of his career and arguably his biggest to date falling on Father’s Day with his dad trackside and as the result of an amazing reaction time. As the weekend progressed Alex would become more and more dialed in with his RT skewing lower and lower: .061, .032, .012. And entering the finals he would need to deliver as good of a RT, or better, to counter Bo’s car which had been outperforming Alex’s to that point and deliver he did. Alex would tree Bo with an extraordinary .000 RT and never trail as he cruised to victory.
