Having announced at the end of July that 24-year-old Alex Bowman would be replacing Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the famed 88, the Hendrick Motorsports team is rumored to be signing another young talent. Announcing yesterday that they would not be retaining Kasey Kahne, the word is that the team will be tapping 19-year-old phenom William Byron.
In his first full-season of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series last year, at just 18, Byron racked up seven wins on his way to a 5th place finish on the season. Additionally, he has three wins in the XFINITY Series this season where he races for Earnhardt’s JR Motorsports.
With Earnhardt (42) and Kahne (37) both out at Hendricks, the addition of these two youngin’s looks to drop the average age of their drivers from 36 to just 26 when they join 21-year-old Chase Elliot and veteran Jimmie Johnson (42).
