1966 Volkswagen Shorty Bus VW Kombi [Video]

Fans of the hit show Fast N’ Loud know this as the “Shorty Bus” built a few seasons ago and sold at Barrett-Jackson to Tammy Allen for her collection in Colorado where it was on display for a few years. Now this is one of my favorite builds we’ve done on the show because it is so unique, so when I saw it come up for sale again I had to act quickly to bring it back home where it has been on display in our world headquarters here in Dallas, Texas!

When I found this “Shorty Bus” it was like most of the ones I’ve seen in the past (people have been modifying VW’s for decades now) with much work needed to get it to what I had in mind when I first wanted to build one years ago.

We built this to a very high level making it arguably the nicest one in existence today. We started by stripping it back to bare metal and completing untold hours of repair and prep before applying the incredible finish you see here. No expense was spared when it came time to finish the interior with a complete restoration including custom carpet, headliner, panels and seats (see all pics).

Attention turned to the chassis where we installed all new suspension, brake and steering components including a brand new adjustable front axle assembly from Wagenswest, adjustable rear spring plates, Wilwood brakes, Rancho Transaxle, and a monster 2200cc engine built by Lucky’s Fab Shop all riding on 17” Airkewld Smoothies!

The result you see here is a truly one of a kind creation that is over the top in looks and performance and will lift the front wheels when desired and commands attention where ever it is seen. It should be noted that due to the diminutive 47” wheel base this unique VW “Shorty Bus” is intended for off road use and/or display purposes only!
