Somebody Ordered a Pink Brabus Smart Car From the Factory and It's For Sale
Share
I've bought cars with seven figures on the window sticker. I've also bought cars off a lawn for four hundred bucks. And I'm telling you right now, this little thing has been rattling around my head all morning.
It's a 2013 Smart ForTwo. Brabus version. Painted pink. From the factory.
Yes, from the factory
That's the part that flips this from a joke into an actual collector car. This wasn't somebody's driveway paint job. Smart ran a tailor-made program back then that let buyers spec all kinds of oddball colors and trim straight off the line, and somebody used it. Pink over white, and the pink carries inside too, onto the gauges, the door trim, the shift boot, even the stalks.
Word is it was ordered in Beverly Hills, which figures, and it's since ended up in Wisconsin. I'd love to hear how that trip went.
The Brabus part is real
It's not just badges, though it's got those. The kit brings its own bumpers, wheels, and fuel door, plus actual suspension work underneath. Brabus didn't half it.
Power's about what you'd guess. One liter, three cylinders, 101 horsepower through a five-speed automated manual. Nobody's winning anything. But it's a couple hundred pounds of nothing, and cars like this are more fun at seven tenths than a supercar is at two.
It's up on MB Market, and when Jalopnik wrote it up the bidding hadn't cracked six grand. Six grand. There are wheel sets in my shop that cost more than that.
The Monkey take
Here's the lesson underneath the paint, and it applies to every car in your garage: originality is what holds value. A factory-optioned oddball with the paperwork behind it will always be worth more than the same car somebody redid at home, even if the home version looks better. Rarity plus documentation. That's the whole game in the collector market.
Would I daily it? Not a chance, I don't fit. Would I keep it in the corner of the shop and hand the keys to whoever's talking the most trash that day? Absolutely.
It's a live auction, so the money will have moved by the time you read this.
